Oi vey. I'm getting a few complaints about my blog. Apparently, it's not interesting or relevant and my posts are too infrequent. I am sorry. If you will scroll down, you'll notice a few posts about some major life changes I've recently gone through that have sapped all of my spare time and energy. I am currently working three jobs and going to school full-time. Granted, one of the jobs I am working is fashion-related but it still takes me away from my beloved blog. I would love to be blogging more, but I just can't. I do promise to give my thoughts about NY Fashion Week and my favorite collections (though my pictures that I usually do won't be as elaborate because I don't have my fancy photoshop software any longer). Also, I will be blogging Paris Fashion Week for Blacks Retail Analysis, so keep a look-out for that!
Let me make a confession here: I do this for fun. I adore fashion, but what I love most about it is watching people create their individual and unique styles up to and including high fashion. What I am most interested in is DIY, indie fashion, underground fashion, fashion entrepreneurs, street fashion, vintage fashion, thrift store chic, etc. I basically love anything off the beaten path. I do love haute couture and keeping up with the latest trends from the runway, but that stuff is not my driving motivation for keeping this blog.
I am always open to your suggestions and always try to incorporate your requests, so keep them coming, even if they are criticisms. How else will I improve?
MUCH LOVE,
Grace
P.S Thanks for caring.

When divas attack.
So Andre Leon Talley is in a hissy fit. What's new? The man is the personficiation of diva. Anyway, he hates that they chose Stanley Tucci to (sorta) play him in The Devil Wears Prada. That movie is so last year (literally!), but I guess this "news item" is resurfacing because it won some kinda Oscar last night. Why it was nominated, I'll never know. I mean, it was a bad adaptation of an even worse book, with some nominally interesting outfits from some overblown designers. Am I being too mean? Uh, well, Meryl Streep was rillygood. But, she always is. Man, I should just shut up before all of my job opportunities at Vogue are withdrawn.
Well, anyway, I think the reason they chose Stanley Tucci is because his last name rhymes with Gucci, Pucci and Rucci. Wait! I can see a resemblance. Can't you?

Titillation
Did you see that amazing b&w photoshoot in the March 2007 W? Well, it's generating a lot of buzz around the fashion "blogosphere" (isn't there a better word for that?). Here are a few images from the shoot, the rest can be found here.

I adore the look of this shoot. It's one of the more highly stylized ones I've ever seen, but the lack of set makes it look so much more minimalistic. It's very macabre and even a little bit perverse, but it's still utterly gorgeous.

Grab 'em while they're hot
I've been trolling all over ebay for vintage clothes, because I can never get enough of that retro style. Here are some things I won't be purchasing, but that you definitely should, for the Love of All Things Awesome!

(This also happens to be my favorite thing on ebay!)

This ain't no goddamn church
So, everyone has been spending so much time and energy blogging the recent NY fashion week. We're bending over backwards to blog every last minute of the runway shows - and we're going to eventually go through even more extremes to keep up with emerging trends.
In a fit of rebellion, I'll spend a little time and energy being irreverent about fashion (or at least the people behind the fashion):
^Sasha Baron Cohen as Bruno @ Fashion Week
^Mr. T on 80's fashion
^Bruno with the Fashion Police

From the desk of an invalid...
At the risk of sounding like your grandmother, I have to tell you that my back has been killing me lately. But, I put on my most supportive pair of shoes and hit the thrift stores anyways and came back with one of the best hauls ever. I got a metallic jacket that's perfect for the metallic trend going on right now, a beautiful vintage Armani jacket (will probably ebay this), awesome retro scarves, a huge and perfectly done Gucci knockoff bag, a little black clutch with an huge metal owl head protruding from it, and a whole bunch more. It was worth the pain, let me tell you.
And here's what I've been buying in the comfort of my own home:

You knew that a dedicated philosophy nerd lurks behind my fashion-loving exterior, didn't you? Well, in case you didn't know, Albert Camus is my main squeeze. "Neither Victims Nor Executioners" is one of the most important modern political works ever written. The good news is, it's basically a pamphlet. I bought this shirt to celebrate his undying awesomeness. Anyway, enough about that. Go check out this guy's Etsy shop. It's basically the best t-shirt store I've ever found anywhere. I am so in love with every design. I am so getting the Kubrick, the Akira Kurasawa, the Toshiro Mifune, Twiggy, Dolly Parton, Mitch Hedberg, Vladimir Nabokov,Bill Hicks, and Kerouac's Typewriter shirts when I get a chance. And probably more than that eventually.

A fabulous leopard swing coat? For that, I would fight crippled grannies in the Mall of America. Or at least pretend my bidding struggle on ebay is that dramatic!

Another valiantly won ebay purchase. Ebay is like the best flea market in the world, and you don't even have to deal with pushy salespeople!

I am all over yellow this spring. Yellow and red have always been my best colors, and who could pass up an enormous vintage frame bag in such a vibrant shade?

This little guy is going to keep Bruce company. I think I have developed a genuine obsession for animal jewelry. I have two rillyrillyrilly awesome owl necklaces, a giant turtle necklace, an octopus, a badger, 2 swallows, and a horse necklace. When does it stop? It doesn't. My goal is to possess the entire animal kingdom in necklace form.

Oh yes, more yellow. I'm basking in its warmth like sunrays.
